Chris Fernández, editor de Metal Fans Chile, conversó con FRACTURUS, banda canadiense de Death Metal técnico originaria de Montreal, Quebec, Canadá.
En una amena conversación con Peter, bajista de FRACTURUS, hablamos sobre la historia de la banda, la escena metalera canadiense, su nueva formación, la evolución de su sonido y todos los detalles de The Synthetic Path, su esperado nuevo álbum.
También conversamos sobre el concepto del disco, la inteligencia artificial, la tecnología, sus experiencias girando por Europa, sus planes para nuevos territorios y la posibilidad de llevar la música de FRACTURUS hasta Latinoamérica.

☠️Chris: Para comenzar, para quienes están descubriendo FRACTURUS por primera vez, ¿podrían presentarse y contarnos un poco sobre la banda y su historia?
⚔️Chris: First of all, for those who may be discovering FRACTURUS for the first time, could you introduce yourselves and tell us a little about the band and its history?
☠️Peter: ¡Hola! Somos del frío norte de Montreal, Quebec, Canadá. Montreal es conocida por ser un enorme foco y punto de encuentro del Metal en Norteamérica, y estamos orgullosos de haber surgido de allí. Tocamos Death Metal rápido y técnico y siempre intentamos llevarnos hasta el siguiente límite.
⚔️Peter: Hello there! We’re from the cold North in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Montréal is known for being a huge Metal hotspot and melting pot in North America, and we’re proud to have emerged from there. We play fast and technical Death Metal and always try to push ourselves to the next limit.

⚔️Chris: Canada has a long and important tradition in metal, with legendary bands such as Annihilator, Anvil, Voivod and Gorguts, among many others, having left a lasting mark on the international scene. How would you describe the Canadian metal scene today, and what do you think makes it unique compared with other metal scenes around the world?
☠️Peter: Hablando solamente de Montreal y Quebec, la cantidad de talento que hay aquí es increíble. El Metal está muy vivo y sigue dando batalla. En Montreal, algunas noches puedes tener varios conciertos de Metal ocurriendo en la misma calle, y las bandas internacionales casi nunca se saltan la ciudad. Hay algo relacionado con el Metal prácticamente todas las noches.
⚔️Peter: Speaking for Montréal and Québec alone, the sheer amount of talent here is incredible. Metal is very much alive and kicking. In Montréal, some nights you can have several Metal shows happening on the same street, and international bands almost never skip the city. There’s something Metal going on nearly every night.

☠️Chris: FRACTURUS ha entrado ahora en un nuevo capítulo con Patrick Goyette y Rémi LeGresley incorporándose a la formación. ¿Cómo se produjeron estos cambios y cómo ha influido la nueva formación en la dirección musical y en la química de la banda?
⚔️Chris: FRACTURUS has now entered a new chapter with Patrick Goyette and Rémi LeGresley joining the lineup. How did these changes come about, and how has the new lineup influenced the band's musical direction and chemistry?
☠️Peter: El año pasado decidimos tomar un nuevo rumbo con un nuevo vocalista y realizamos audiciones. No podríamos estar más felices de haber encontrado a Pat. Su voz es extremadamente versátil y definitivamente lleva nuestra música a otro nivel.
Rémi ha sido un viejo amigo de la banda y anteriormente había trabajado con nosotros en nuestras grabaciones de batería. Esta vez, los planetas se alinearon. Escuchó el nuevo material durante las sesiones y no pudo resistirse a agregar unos solos de guitarra increíbles sobre las canciones. Sonaban de puta madre, así que le pedimos que se uniera a la banda.
Greg y Rémi se complementan extremadamente bien y, en conjunto, creo que hemos conseguido el sonido más ambicioso y más increíble en la historia de la banda.
⚔️Peter: Last year, we decided to take a new route with a new singer and held auditions. We couldn’t be happier to have found Pat. His voice is extremely versatile and definitely pushes our music to another level.
Rémi has been a longtime friend of the band and had previously worked with us on our drum recordings. This time, the planets aligned. He heard the new material during the sessions and couldn’t resist adding some sweet-ass leads on top of the songs. They sounded killer, so we asked him to join the band.
Greg and Rémi complement each other extremely well, and altogether I think we’ve achieved the most ambitious and kickass sound in the band’s history.
☠️Chris: Su nuevo álbum se titula The Synthetic Path. ¿Qué pueden contarnos sobre el concepto detrás del álbum, particularmente sobre la idea de que la humanidad crea sus propios demonios y dioses mecánicos para finalmente terminar esclavizada por ellos?
⚔️Chris: Your new album is titled The Synthetic Path. What can you tell us about the concept behind the album, particularly the idea that humanity creates its own machine demons and gods, only to eventually become enslaved by them?
☠️Peter: The Synthetic Path es esencialmente un álbum conceptual sobre la humanidad creando sus propios dioses y demonios mecánicos. Construimos estos sistemas para que nos sirvan, pero finalmente nos volvemos dependientes de ellos, controlados por ellos y quizás incluso subordinados a ellos.
No es una historia lineal de principio a fin, sino una colección de ideas conectadas sobre un futuro digital distópico, la inteligencia artificial, la transformación digital y cómo la humanidad va entregando lentamente el control a sus propias creaciones.
⚔️Peter: The Synthetic Path is essentially a concept album about humanity creating its own machine gods and demons. We build these systems to serve us, but eventually become dependent on them, controlled by them and maybe even subordinate to them.
It’s not one linear story from beginning to end, but a collection of connected ideas about a dystopian digital future, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and humanity slowly giving up control to its own creations.
☠️Chris: “The Created Divine” es un título muy poderoso. ¿Cuál es el significado de la canción y cómo se conecta con el concepto general de The Synthetic Path?
⚔️Chris: “The Created Divine” is a very powerful title. What is the meaning behind the song, and how does it connect with the overall concept of The Synthetic Path?
☠️Peter: El título básicamente lo dice todo: lo divino ya no es algo sobrenatural, sino algo que la humanidad misma creó. Construimos nuestros propios dioses digitales, les damos poder, autoridad y control, y después comenzamos a servir a aquello que nosotros mismos creamos. Esa idea está en el corazón mismo de The Synthetic Path.
⚔️Peter: The title basically says it all: the divine is no longer something supernatural, but something humanity created itself. We build our own digital gods, give them power, authority and control, and then start serving what we created. That idea sits right at the heart of The Synthetic Path.
☠️Chris: Ya han lanzado “Grace To Man” y “The Created Divine”. ¿Qué querían mostrar del nuevo álbum con estas dos canciones y qué tan representativas son del sonido del disco completo?
⚔️Chris: You have already released “Grace To Man” and “The Created Divine”. What did you want these two songs to reveal about the new album, and how representative are they of the sound of the complete record?
☠️Peter: “Grace To Man” fue elegida como primer single porque golpea extremadamente fuerte. Básicamente es una explosión directa a tu cara, ¡y esa es exactamente la primera impresión que queríamos causar, jajaja!
“The Created Divine” muestra muy bien la versatilidad vocal de Pat. También estamos preparando un tercer single antes de que salga el álbum, que mostrará el excepcional trabajo de guitarra solista de Rémi.
Así que los tres singles, en conjunto, les darán una buena idea de qué esperar, aunque todavía nos guardamos algunos ases bajo la manga. Esperamos que les abran el apetito por más. ¡Estamos listos para entregarles el álbum completo el 12 de octubre de 2026!
⚔️Peter: Grace To Man was chosen as the first single because it hits extremely hard. It’s basically a blast straight into your face, and that’s exactly the first impression we wanted to make, haha!
The Created Divine shows Pat’s vocal versatility really well. We’re also planning a third single before the album comes out, which will showcase Rémi’s exceptional lead guitar work.
So the three singles together give you a pretty good idea of what to expect, while we’re still keeping a few aces up our sleeves. Hopefully they make you hungry for more. We’re ready to feed you the full album on October 12th, 2026!
☠️Chris: Comparado con Versus The Void, ¿cómo describirían la evolución musical de FRACTURUS en The Synthetic Path? ¿Hubo algo que quisieran ampliar o cambiar conscientemente en su sonido?
⚔️Chris: Compared with Versus The Void, how would you describe the musical evolution of FRACTURUS on The Synthetic Path? Was there anything in particular that you consciously wanted to expand or change in your sound?
☠️Peter: Fue más una evolución natural que algo que hubiéramos planeado conscientemente. Los cambios deliberados más importantes fueron obviamente el nuevo vocalista y la incorporación de un segundo guitarrista.
Pero todo se volvió más extremo. La batería es más rápida y pesada, cada canción tiene riffs increíbles, los solos agregan otra dimensión y el bajo suena como una patada en las bolas… ¡pero de una manera agradable!
⚔️Peter: It was more of a natural evolution than something we consciously planned. The biggest deliberate changes were obviously the new singer and adding a second guitarist.
But everything became more extreme. The drums are faster and heavier, every song has killer riffs, the leads add another dimension, and the bass sounds like a kick in the balls… in a nice way!
☠️Chris: Con dos guitarristas en la formación actual, ¿cómo ha cambiado la incorporación de Rémi la manera en que la banda aborda los riffs, las melodías, las armonías y el trabajo de guitarra solista?
⚔️Chris: With two guitarists in the current lineup, how has Rémi's addition changed the way the band approaches riffs, melodies, harmonies and lead guitar work?
☠️Peter: Lo interesante es que la composición del nuevo álbum ya estaba terminada y las guitarras y el bajo ya habían sido grabados cuando entramos al estudio para grabar la batería con Rémi como nuestro ingeniero.
Escuchó las canciones, comenzó a improvisar sobre ellas y creó los increíbles solos que pueden escuchar en el álbum. Eso agregó una capa completamente nueva de melodías, armonías y trabajo técnico de guitarra sin cambiar la base de las canciones.
⚔️Peter: The interesting thing is that the songwriting for the new album was already finished and the guitars and bass were already recorded when we entered the studio to record drums with Rémi as our engineer.
He heard the songs, started jamming over them and came up with the killer leads you can hear on the album. That added a completely new layer of melodies, harmonies and technical guitar work without changing the foundation of the songs.
☠️Chris: The Synthetic Path aborda la tecnología, la creación artificial y las posibles consecuencias de las ambiciones de la humanidad. ¿El concepto estuvo inspirado por desarrollos reales de la inteligencia artificial y la tecnología, o surgió principalmente de la ciencia ficción y de su propia imaginación?
⚔️Chris: The Synthetic Path deals with technology, artificial creation and the possible consequences of humanity's own ambitions. Was the concept inspired by real developments in artificial intelligence and technology, or did it come mainly from science fiction and your own imagination?
☠️Peter: Definitivamente de ambas cosas. Todos somos bastante aficionados a la tecnología, así que estamos observando estos avances cada vez más rápidos de primera mano todos los días.
Al mismo tiempo, la ciencia ficción obviamente juega un papel. Vienen a la mente cosas como The Terminator y The Matrix, pero también obras japonesas como Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion y Ghost in the Shell.
Sumemos algunas ideas filosóficas, conceptos como el Basilisco de Roko y nuestra propia imaginación, y eso se convirtió en la base del álbum.
⚔️Peter: Definitely both. We’re all pretty tech-affectionate guys, so we’re watching these increasingly rapid developments firsthand every day.
At the same time, science fiction obviously plays a role. Things like The Terminator and The Matrix come to mind, but also Japanese works such as Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell.
Add some philosophical ideas, concepts like Roko’s Basilisk and our own imagination, and that became the foundation for the album.
☠️Chris: Su álbum anterior fue producido con Chris Donaldson, una figura muy respetada del Death Metal conocida por su trabajo con Cryptopsy, y el nuevo álbum también fue mezclado y masterizado por él. ¿Qué hace que Chris Donaldson sea una parte tan importante del sonido de FRACTURUS y qué querían conseguir con la producción de The Synthetic Path?
⚔️Chris: Your previous album was produced with Chris Donaldson, a highly respected figure in the death metal scene known for his work with Cryptopsy, and the new album was also mixed and mastered by him. What makes Chris Donaldson such an important part of the FRACTURUS sound, and what did you want to achieve with the production of The Synthetic Path?
☠️Peter: No queremos hacer concesiones cuando se trata de la calidad y claridad de nuestro sonido, así que Chris siempre es nuestra primera opción.
Conoce el Death Metal como pocos y llevó la mezcla del nuevo álbum a otro nivel. Incluso con toda la velocidad, agresividad y elementos técnicos que están presentes, puedes escuchar claramente cada detalle que queríamos que estuviera allí. Creo que es justo decir que simplemente hablamos el mismo idioma del Metal.
⚔️Peter: We don’t want to compromise when it comes to the quality and clarity of our sound, so Chris is always our number one choice.
He knows Death Metal like few others and pushed the new album’s mix to another level. Even with all the speed, aggression and technical stuff going on, you can clearly hear every detail we wanted to be there. I think it’s fair to say we simply speak the same Metal language!
☠️Chris: Ya han realizado dos giras por Europa. ¿Qué les han enseñado esas experiencias como banda y qué diferencias han notado entre tocar metal extremo en Europa y hacerlo en Canadá?
⚔️Chris: You have already toured Europe twice. What have those experiences taught you as a band, and what differences have you noticed between playing extreme metal in Europe and playing in Canada?
☠️Peter: ¡Ambos son geniales! Prefiero hablar de las similitudes antes que de las diferencias.
Hemos hecho grandes amigos a ambos lados del Atlántico —¡y más allá!— y prácticamente todas las bandas con las que hemos compartido escenario han sido increíblemente amistosas y solidarias. Lo mismo ocurre con los locales y promotores que nos han recibido.
La comunidad del Death Metal es básicamente una gran familia mundial de maravillosos maníacos.
⚔️Peter: Both are great! I’d rather talk about the similarities than the differences.
We’ve made some kickass friends on both sides of the Atlantic (and beyond!), and almost every band we’ve shared a stage with has been incredibly friendly and supportive. The same goes for the venues and promoters who welcomed us.
The Death Metal community is basically one big worldwide family of wonderful maniacs.
☠️Chris: Con el lanzamiento de The Synthetic Path acercándose, ¿cuáles son sus planes para conciertos y giras? ¿Esperan regresar a Europa o llegar a nuevos países y públicos con este álbum?
⚔️Chris: With the release of The Synthetic Path approaching, what are your plans for live shows and touring? Are you hoping to return to Europe or reach new countries and audiences with this album?
Peter: Por ahora, realizaremos cuatro conciertos de lanzamiento del álbum en Canadá a finales de octubre.
A largo plazo, definitivamente queremos llegar a nuevos territorios. Todos los integrantes de la banda han realizado giras internacionales, ya sea con Fracturus o con bandas anteriores, así que visitar lugares donde nunca hemos tocado y llevar nuestra música allí sería extremadamente emocionante.
Pero, por supuesto, siempre estaremos felices de regresar a Europa o tocar más conciertos en Canadá y Norteamérica.
⚔️Peter: For now, we’re doing four album release shows in Canada at the end of October.
Long term, we definitely want to reach some new territories. Everyone in the band has toured internationally either with Fracturus or previous bands, so visiting places we haven’t played before and bringing our music there would be extremely exciting.
But of course we’ll always be happy to return to Europe or play more shows in Canada and North America as well!
☠️Chris: ¿Qué les gustaría que los oyentes se llevaran de The Synthetic Path después de escuchar el álbum completo? ¿Y qué podemos esperar próximamente de FRACTURUS?
⚔️Chris: What would you like listeners to take away from The Synthetic Path after listening to the entire album? And what can we expect next from FRACTURUS?
☠️Peter: Quizás el mensaje sea: no te conviertas demasiado en esclavo de tu propio parásito digital.
Voluntariamente introducimos estos sistemas en nuestras vidas y mentes, ya sea la IA, las redes sociales, el consumo interminable o cualquier otra cosa. Tenemos acceso a casi toda la información del mundo al alcance de nuestras manos, pero también a mentiras, manipulación y ruido interminable.
Es muy fácil ahogarse en todo eso. Así que, en lugar de dejar que la máquina te controle, controla tú a la máquina.
⚔️Peter: Maybe the message is: Don't become too much of a slave to your own digital parasite.
We willingly put these systems into our lives and minds, whether that means AI, social media, endless consumption or anything else. We have access to almost all the information in the world at our fingertips, but also lies, manipulation and endless noise.
It’s very easy to drown in all of that. So instead of letting the machine control you, control the machine.
☠️Chris: FRACTURUS ya ha tenido la oportunidad de tocar en Europa. ¿Les gustaría llevar su música a Latinoamérica en el futuro y eventualmente presentarse en países como Chile y otros lugares de la región? ¿Qué significaría para ustedes llevar la música de FRACTURUS al público metalero latinoamericano?
⚔️Chris: FRACTURUS has already had the opportunity to play in Europe. Would you like to expand your music to Latin America in the future and eventually perform in countries such as Chile and elsewhere in the region? What would it mean to you to bring FRACTURUS's music to the Latin American metal audience?
☠️Peter: ¡Absolutamente! Nos encantaría ir a Latinoamérica.
Rémi fue bajista sustituto de Cryptopsy durante su gira latinoamericana de 2025 y regresó con historias absolutamente increíbles. Todo el mundo sabe que los metaleros de Chile y de toda Latinoamérica están entre los fans más entusiastas y desquiciados del mundo.
Ese es exactamente el tipo de público para el que queremos tocar. ¡Vamos!
⚔️Peter: Absolutely! We’d love to come to Latin America.
Rémi was a substitute bass player for Cryptopsy’s Latin American tour in 2025, and he came back with some absolutely crazy stories. Everybody knows that Metalheads in Chile and across Latin America are some of the most enthusiastic and insane fans in the world.
That’s exactly the kind of people we want to play for. Let’s go!
Chris: Finalmente, ¿qué mensaje les gustaría enviar a todos los fans del metal de Sudamérica que están descubriendo FRACTURUS por primera vez? ¿Hay algo especial que quisieran decirles a quienes están conociendo su música desde esta parte del mundo?
⚔️Chris: Finally, what message would you like to send to all the metal fans in South America who are discovering FRACTURUS for the first time? Is there anything special you would like to say to those who are getting to know your music from this part of the world?
