ENGLISH

 - How did Neurologic Pathology begin, and what has the band's journey been like from its early days to the present?

The band actually started way back in 2010. The goal was to learn how to play heavy music like our idols. I put a team together, and we started rehearsing a couple of our own tracks as well as some covers.

But eventually, we developed different views on music and went our separate ways.

Around the same time, I met a vocalist named Pablo, and we created another project called Schizogen. We worked with his existing tracks, and I also wrote some of my own material for the project. It turned out that I was asking to work specifically on my own project, which I eventually came to regret. Over time, Pablo and I also went our separate ways, and Schizogen continued with Pablo.

In 2016, after leaving Schizogen, I finally continued working on my own project. I named it Neurologic Pathology and recorded the first single, Cattlle, together with local musicians. Unfortunately, at that time I still couldn't find like-minded musicians who could continue making music with me.

Then, sometime around 2017, I stepped away from the music scene, but I continued playing and writing new material that has not been released yet.

In 2021, I returned to the music scene with renewed energy and new ideas. That was when work began on the first album, which featured completely new compositions.

ENGLISH

 - From those early works to Born of Pathology, what would you say has been the biggest change in Neurologic Pathology's music?

Perhaps the biggest change is that we are no longer simply trying to make the music heavier.

We are trying to make it more expressive — so that the aggression, dark atmosphere, and technical side work together to create a distinctive identity for Neurologic Pathology.

ENGLISH

 - How did your previous singles influence the development of the band's music?

Definitely, this experience played a big role. Each single was a kind of experiment for me and, at the same time, a form of practice.

I wasn’t trying to make songs that all sounded the same. I’ll let you in on a little secret: every song was born under the influence of certain circumstances.

ENGLISH

 - How would you describe the Ukrainian extreme metal scene today?

The Ukrainian extreme metal scene has always been quite unique and distinctive. There are very strong bands across many different styles, from death and black metal to grindcore, doom, and more experimental forms of extreme music.

At the same time, many Ukrainian bands don't simply try to copy Western influences — they try to develop their own sound and atmosphere.

I think one of the main characteristics of the Ukrainian scene is its dedication to music. We have never had a huge industry or a lot of financial resources, so bands have largely had to build everything themselves. Musicians organize shows, record their own material, promote it, and support each other. This has created a very tight-knit underground community.

Today, I feel that the Ukrainian scene has become much more visible internationally. Many bands are releasing strong material, playing abroad, and reaching audiences outside Ukraine. And what is especially important is that Ukrainian musicians continue to create and release music even under extremely difficult circumstances.

Compared to larger scenes in other countries, we may have fewer resources and opportunities, but there is a very strong sense of underground culture and personal involvement. Here, music is often created not because of the industry or commercial goals, but simply because people genuinely need to make it.

I think that's what makes the Ukrainian extreme metal scene so special.

ENGLISH

- How has the war affected Neurologic Pathology?

All I can say is that the war has had a negative impact!

ENGLISH

 - What does Born of Pathology mean to you, both personally and as a band?

Personally, this is a very important release for me because we put an enormous amount of time, energy, and emotion into it. It is not just a collection of songs — each track represents a certain period of our lives, our thoughts, and the experience we have gained over the years.

For the band as a whole, Born of Pathology is an opportunity to show who Neurologic Pathology is today. We were able to bring together our understanding of heavy music and create material that we can truly call our own. Of course, as time goes on, we will move forward and perhaps look at this album a little differently, but it will always remain an important part of the band's history and a starting point for the next chapter.

ENGLISH

 - What was the writing and recording process like?

The writing and recording process was very long and difficult because there were constantly circumstances getting in the way, including the war. This also involved the musicians who took part in the recording, except for our vocalist and sound engineer.

All the tracks were written specifically for this album, but there are also two bonus tracks dating back to 2010, from when it all began.

ENGLISH

-The band has been labeled as deathcore. Do you identify with that classification, and what are your main influences?

Honestly, I don't really understand where the deathcore is in there. :)

A lot of people write to me and ask why we are being labeled as deathcore. If you mean the sound of the album, then that was simply how the sound engineer felt it, and with a different sound, the music would have been somewhat different.

But if you mean the bands, then I am a huge fan of bands like Dying Fetus, Aborted, Nile, Ingested, Necrophagist, Archspire, and Cannibal Corpse. They are the bands that inspire me.

ENGLISH

- What mainly inspires the lyrics of Neurologic Pathology?

I am mainly inspired by life itself and everything that is happening around us. Death, violence, destruction, fear, and apocalyptic imagery are not just elements of extreme music; they are part of human history and the reality we see every day.

I am interested in exploring the darkest sides of human nature and society, which is why the lyrics often turn out to be quite dark and aggressive. Sometimes they are a direct reflection of reality, while other times they are more of a creative exaggeration or an image used to convey a certain feeling or idea.

I don't set out to give the listener a specific answer or impose a particular point of view. I find it much more interesting to leave room for their own interpretation. If a lyric creates an emotion, makes someone think, or simply creates a certain atmosphere, then it has already served its purpose.

For me, extreme music has always been a way of talking directly about difficult and unpleasant things, without trying to make them look more beautiful than they really are.

ENGLISH

 - “In the Trenches” took on a different meaning after the war began. How do you see the song today?

Although the lyrics of “In the Trenches” were not originally written specifically about the war in Ukraine, after the full-scale war began, they took on a completely different meaning for us.

Today, the phrase “In the trenches we meet again” is perceived quite literally. Many of the images in the song — confrontation with an enemy, hatred, the desire to survive and win — have taken on a new meaning against the backdrop of what is happening in our country.

That is why these lyrics are now inevitably associated with war and the trenches for us, even though their original meaning was more personal.

Dying Fetus is the benchmark for brutal music for me!

ENGLISH

 - How important are streaming platforms for the band today?

At the moment, there is no way around streaming platforms. They help people discover new bands from all over the world. It is very important to us that every fan of this genre has the opportunity to hear our music and hopefully enjoy it.

ENGLISH

 - How important is international recognition to you, and which countries have the most listeners?

Of course, international recognition is important to us, especially now, when music can cross borders so quickly and reach listeners in all kinds of countries.

It’s always great to know that the music we create in Ukraine is being listened to by people who are thousands of kilometers away and may have nothing to do with the Ukrainian scene at all.

But for us, the number of listeners has never been the main goal. What matters first and foremost is staying true to ourselves and making the music we genuinely want to make. If that music also resonates with an international audience, that’s a huge bonus and a great motivation to keep moving forward.

International attention also helps make the Ukrainian extreme metal scene more visible. For us, it’s an opportunity to show that Ukraine has a strong and distinctive heavy music scene that can absolutely find its place on the global stage.

So I would say that international recognition is not an end goal for us, but rather a natural continuation of the band’s development. We simply want to make good music, and the farther it can travel from the place where it was created, the better.

The top three countries where we have the most listeners are the United States, Ukraine, and Germany.

ENGLISH

 - Have you had the opportunity to discover any Chilean metal bands? Would you like to perform in Chile someday?

So far, we haven't had the opportunity to discover or get acquainted with any Chilean metal bands.

Yes, of course, we would love to perform in Chile and other countries. Unfortunately, that's not possible for us at the moment, but I hope we'll be able to do it in the future.

ENGLISH

 - Ukraine has produced internationally recognized extreme metal bands, including Jinjer. How do you see the role of Ukrainian bands in bringing attention to the country's metal scene internationally?

We don't talk about the so-called band Jinjer. They are considered outcasts in our country because of their political views, and I don't feel comfortable writing about them.

We have many very worthy bands that have performed outside Ukraine more than once, including Ignea, Flesgore, 1914, Nokturnal Mortum, and many others.

ENGLISH

 - What has been the biggest difficulty in finally releasing Born of Pathology?

There have been a lot of difficulties, but they never went away — they only became greater. We are proud that, despite everything that is happening in our country, we were able to release this album.

ENGLISH

What are Neurologic Pathology's plans for the future? Can we expect new music and concerts?

For now, the only plan is to survive, because there is a war going on in our country. Every day, Russia launches missile strikes against residential buildings, shops, markets, gas stations, and so on.

I am always working on new material. The next album will consist of older compositions written between 2012 and 2021, along with some completely new tracks.

I hope there will be concerts.

ENGLISH

 - Finally, what message would you like to send to our readers and to those discovering Neurologic Pathology for the first time?

First of all, thank you to everyone who decided to discover Neurologic Pathology through Born of Pathology. We know there is an enormous amount of extreme music out there, so it really means a lot to us when someone from another country takes the time to listen to our music.

We would like you to see this album not simply as another heavy release, but as a part of our journey and a reflection of where we come from. This is music we created sincerely, without trying to follow any particular trends.

If you are drawn to aggression, dark atmospheres, and extreme music, we hope Born of Pathology will resonate with you. And if the album makes you want to learn more about Neurologic Pathology and the Ukrainian metal scene, that would be the best possible result for us.

Thank you for your support and for listening to our music. We hope to meet you at a show someday!
